Hello, I’m John Szabanowicz.

Based in Reading, Berkshire, I specialise in documenting personal histories and family legacies. I believe that stepping in front of a camera shouldn’t feel intimidating; it should feel like a conversation.

I set up The Story Tellers’ Room to provide a dignified, unobtrusive alternative to traditional video production. I don’t use heavy rigs or blinding studio lights. Instead, I rely on a quiet, observant eye, creating a comfortable environment where your authentic story can naturally unfold.

Securing your important history.

So much of our family history is locked away in formats that are slowly degrading or becoming impossible to play. Alongside my bespoke film-making, I offer professional digitisation services to rescue these memories.

From converting old VHS tapes and audio cassettes to hand-scanning 35mm transparencies, negatives and faded photographic prints. Because I understand the immense emotional value of your originals, I process everything personally in my Reading studio, ensuring your media is never sent to a bulk-scanning warehouse.
